Patrick J. O'Donoghue reports:
Editor-in-chief of the 'Correo del Orinoco' in English, Eva Golinger has come out in defense of Peruvian-born journalist, Vicky Pelaez, who writes for the New York-based EL Diario La Prensa and her Uruguayan husband, Juan Lazaro ... they are both accused of being Russian Federal agents for years and money-laundering.
Pelaez herself has worked for the local Hispanic newspaper for more than twenty years.
Golinger said Pelaez is one of the few Hispanic journalists, who has consistently criticized Washington's politics towards Latin America.
The editor-in-chief complained that none of the international press organizations has come out in Pelaez defense. The groups are the first to react when Venezuelan opposition sectors claim political persecution against opposition media owners or journalists.
The arrest of the Pelaez' family, Golinger declared, shows the hypocritical nature of the USA that charges people in the USA for receiving money from and working for a foreign country, while sending large amount of dollars to finance opposition groups in Venezuela via groups such as the National Endowment for Democracy (NED).
Pelaez, her husband and eight others, are charged under the Foreign Agent Registration Act as members of a sleeper spy ring.
