Iran's army commander Major General Ataollah Salehi said Tuesday that a submarine will be launched by the Iranian navy in the next ten days, the official IRNA news agency reported.

"The submarine will be used whenever the Iranian vessels are in danger," Salehi told IRNA.

"This domestic submarine will be used in far-off waters or anywhere the Iranian ships are threatened," he was quoted as saying.

"The navy's continued missions in the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean call for high potency of the Islamic Republic of Iran's navy," he said.

In July, Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi said that the country plans to launch a hi-tech submarine equipped with advanced weapons in the near future, the semi- official Fars news agency reported.

In June, head of Iran's Army Research Center Mohammad Sadri announced that Iran is intending to build new radar-evading drones that can be operated by its submarines, according to satellite Press TV.
