KABUL (AFP) - A candidate in Afghanistan’s upcoming elections and two NATO soldiers have been killed in the country’s volatile south, officials said Saturday.
Parliamentary candidate Najibullah Gulistani was abducted 18 days ago and his beheaded body was found on Friday in Ghazni province, said provincial police chief Khyalbaz Sherzai.
“He was dumped in an area near his home in Qara Bagh district,” said Sherzai. Political assassinations have become increasingly common in Afghanistan, where parliamentary elections are due to be held on September 18 after being once delayed over security and logistical fears.
NATO’s International Security Assistance Force said two soldiers were killed in a bomb attack in the restive south, but gave no further details.
