NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq: The Ninewa Governor Atheel al-Nejeifi survived an assassination attempt on Sunday when a roadside bomb hit his motorcade in central Mosul city.
“The blast occurred at the intersection of the 4th Bridge, near the governor’s residency,” a local police source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.
He noted that the blast caused no casualties.
The source explained that minutes after the blast that targeted Gov. Nejeifi, a roadside bomb went off in the same location targeting a police patrol.
“Two police officers, one of them a brigadier, and one cop were all wounded in the second blast,” he added.
Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.
