Iran currently exports 25 million cubic meters of natural gas to Turkey per day.
Turkey has paid a fine of around 600 million dollars to Iran for breaching a contract for importing 30 million cubic meters of Iranian gas per day.
Turkey's BOTAS Petroleum Pipeline Corporation paid the fine to the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) for importing Iranian gas "at a rate smaller than was previously agreed between the two companies," Mehr news agency reported.
Under a 23-year deal, Turkey is obliged to import 30 million cubic meters of Iranian gas per day but BOTAS averagely imported 25 million cubic meters per day during the past Iranian calendar year (ended March 20).
Iran pumped an amount of 6.8 billion cubic meters of natural gas to Turkey during the past year.
