BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: Iraqiya bloc leader Iyad Allawi headed for Moscow on a visit upon an official invitation from Russian President Dmitry Medvedev as part of the bloc’s efforts to build confidence between Iraq and its friends, according to spokesman Haider al-Mulla on Friday.

“The failure of (Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri) al-Maliki’s government in the investment of foreign policy does not reflect the culture of the Iraqi people who are open to all world nations, particularly with Russia, major player in the international arena,” Mulla told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

On the stance adopted by al-Ahrar bloc of Iraqi Shiite leader Muqtada al-Sadr regarding the nomination of Allawi for the prime minister post, Mulla replied that the Sadrists do not have any reservations about naming Allawi for the post.

“The Sadrists are vehemently against nominating al-Malikim” he added.

He expressed hope the two poles of the Iraqi National Alliance – the Sadrist Movement and Ammar al-Hakim’s Supreme Islamic Iraqi Council (SIIC) – would adopt a unified stance regarding the naming of al-Iraqiya leader Iyad Allawi to head the next government.
