KABUL (AFP) - A NATO soldier was killed fighting insurgents in Afghanistan on Wednesday, NATO’s International Security Assistance Force said, amid a surge in military deaths.
It give no further details.
The latest death took to 503 the number of foreign troops killed in the Afghanistan war so far this year, compared to 521 for all of 2009, according to an AFP tally based on that by the independent website icasualties.org.
Military deaths have increased dramatically in recent months amid a surge in Taliban-led violence and counterinsurgency operations by the 150,000-strong US-led NATO force and its Afghan allies.
