Iran has signed a $980 million contract with a Dutch aircraft manufacturing company for the delivery of 25 Fokker-70 passenger planes to the Iranian commercial aviation fleet. The contract was signed by the state Simorgh airline company on the sidelines of an international air show on the Persian Gulf island of Kish. Deliveries of the twin-engine, 80-seat aircraft will start in 2007. Fokker is now owned by Netherlands-based Stork NV (39066.AE) but no longer makes complete aircraft with the last Fokker-70 built in the mid-1990s. Rekkof Aircraft NV, also of the Netherlands, is aiming to restart production of the Fokker 70 and currently has a delegation in Iran, according to a company official.

Head of research and development department of Isfahan refinery noted that a project for replacing di-ethanol amine (DEA) for di-glycol amine (DGA) will start in late February in sour gas processing units of the refinery. DGA is exclusive imported to be used as absorbent for processing sour gas. “DEA is used to replace DGA, which is produced inside the country, thus reducing imports. With the dream gas pipeline project from Iran to India through Pakistan getting another chance to see the light of the day - Shell India - part of the oil giant Royal Dutch Shell, has evinced interest to be a part of the 'peace' pipeline project.
The company is seriously following latest developments on this front and is said to be in talks with other oil majors in India to ensure its participation in the ambitious $4 billion project.
Recently, meetings between the minister of oil and gas, Mani Shankar Aiyer, and his Iranian counterpart had rekindled hope for the 2,775 km gas pipeline criss-crossing almost 760 km through Pakistan. The Iranian minister had indicated that international consortium of bankers and oil firms could build and operate the project.
"Shell is definitely considering to be a part of the project as we think there is a lot of opportunity in this," Lieuwke de Jong, finance controller middle east (plus India), Shell International Gas and Power Ltd, told ET recently.
Hinting at Shell's preparedness to be a part of the project, Jong said, "Everyone is talking to everyone else to look for an opportunity in the region and we will definitely try to be there."
The gas pipeline project is very important for both India and Pakistan which face an acute energy shortage. According to an estimate, the demand for gas in India is expected to grow four-folds from the current level of consumption at around 120 million standard cubic meters per day.

The Bush administration imposed penalties this month against some of China's largest companies for aiding Iran's efforts to improve its ballistic missiles. The move is part of an effort by the White House and American intelligence agencies to identify and slow important elements of Iran's weapons programs.
Too late USA. Iran's weapons development is now self-sufficiently capable - and it has been for some two or three years now.

Iran is close to awarding a mandate to two major European banks to arrange a loan of over $2 billion to finance Phases 15 and 16 of the giant South Pars gas project, according to regional banking sources.
The loan, which has been approved by the board of state National Iranian Oil Co. (NIOC), would be one of the largest of its type signed in Iran's history. It would also confirm the strong commercial links between Iran and Europe
